CBD use with pets is quickly gaining momentum. Just like Humans animals have
an Endocannabinoid (ECS) system built into their biology and they are super receptive to CBD and more often than not they respond quicker and need lower doses than we do.
Is CBD Legal for Pets?
As with all CBD at the moment there are grey areas and information is hard to find and pick through, As CBD becomes more commonplace these will be cleared up and clear guidelines will emerge. We have been speaking extensively with the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) who govern Medication for Pets and they have recognised that CBD has medicinal benefits for Animals and this has led to Vets being able to prescribe CBD for pets. The CBD they prescribe is Human Grade and you will be advised to purchase this at the shop of your choice.
Our CBD is Human grade, Free from Pesticides and Allergens and suitable for
Pet use. We have not added any nasties and our CBD contains only CBD & Cold Pressed Hemp Seed Oil.
To follow guidelines from the VMD we, as retailers are not allowed to label our products as ‘for specific animals ‘, we are not allowed to give personalised dosage advice and any information given will be general and not tailored to your pet. We are allowed to sell this product to owners who have advised us it is for their pet and we are allowed to use Animal pictures/logos on our packaging. We work hard to be compliant within the whole CBD business and follow these rules with our Pet CBD. If you are in any doubt about using CBD for your pet please speak to your Vet for advice. Only a Vet can legally prescribe CBD however we do not need to see this prescription and it is not a legal requirement for us to have a prescription to sell CBD. If you do have a prescription We DO NOT charge any additional fee.
Is CBD Safe for my Pet
Again, we are very limited to the advice we can give however it is important that you know that THC can be FATAL to pets even in very small doses.
To ensure complete safety for your Pet, you must ensure you choose a product that is made with Broad Spectrum or Isolate CBD. Full Spectrum CBD contains THC, to comply with the FSA’s regulations this is in a small amount but it is present and can affect animals even in small doses. Due to this our CBD is THC Free. Our CBD is available in various strengths and we have given a recommended guide to your animal weight. Again this is a recommendation only, Each bottle also contains the mg of CBD per
single drop. We have included this so that you can make an informed choice
about which CBD to choose and for you to know the exact amount of CBD that you
are administering. This is, unfortunately as specific as we are allowed to be.
How to dose CBD
As with Humans the Endocannabinoid (ECS) system in animals is extremely sensitive to CBD and can accept it at various stages, some pets can benefit from the very first dose and for others it can take time to build up in the system, along with this the dose needed will vary per animal regardless of their breed or size.
We recommend that you start off by dosing a few drops for the first day or two and then increase by a few drops per day until you are at a level that you notice is beneficial for your pet, you know your pet better than anyone else so you will know when CBD is helping. Once you feel that they are on the dose that suits them we recommend you stick with this dose daily, this can change over time but once the ECS is working with CBD then changes either increase or decrease will be noticeable within a few days.
If your pet is suffering with pain, anxiety or terror and you are giving a daily dose you can give a Boost dose at times where it is needed, for example when Fireworks start or when you know you are taking them somewhere that usually causes an increase in the issues you are dosing CBD for.
CBD is most effective when it has a quick route to the bloodstream, due to this we have found the best way to dose is to either rub straight into their gums or allow them to lick it from your hand. If neither of these are possible you can dose into food but please bear in mind that they may not get full benefits if all of the food isn’t eaten and as it will need to go through the digestive system to the bloodstream a higher dose may be needed when using this method.
